Carrie Season 1 Release Date on Prime Video Announced

The telekinetic path to Prom Night has an official date. Prime Video has set the global release date for its upcoming eight-episode adaptation of Carrie for 7 October 2026. Rather than opting for a weekly release format, the entire series will drop simultaneously across more than 240 countries and territories.

The project represents the first time Stephen King’s debut 1974 novel has been adapted specifically into a long-form television series, rather than a feature film or made-for-television movie. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, the series brings together creator Mike Flanagan and King himself, who is attached as an executive producer alongside Flanagan, who serves as writer, executive producer, and director.

When King first published Carrie, the narrative was structured through a patchwork of epistolary elements: newspaper clippings, medical transcripts, court testimonies, and book excerpts written long after the tragic destruction of Chamberlain, Maine. While Brian De Palma’s famous 1976 film adaptation leaned heavily into operatic cinema and visceral horror, the episodic format offers an opportunity to explore the broader tapestry of the town in a way feature films simply never had the runtime to manage.

Flanagan’s approach is framed as a contemporary updating of the original book.
