HBO’s Harry Potter TV series just took a major step forward. The upcoming reboot has unveiled 21 new cast members, dramatically expanding the ranks of Hogwarts students and giving fans their clearest look yet at how this long-form adaptation is building J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world.
The announcement confirms five new Gryffindors, eight Slytherins, four Ravenclaws and four Hufflepuffs. And if early fan reactions are anything to go by, Slytherin is already stealing the spotlight.
A Bigger, Bolder Hogwarts
The series, first announced in 2023, will adapt all seven of Rowling’s novels across multiple seasons. Rowling serves as executive producer, with the creative team aiming for a more faithful and detailed interpretation than the original eight-film franchise.
Among the newly confirmed students are Orson Matthews as Oliver Wood, Asha Soetan as Angelina Johnson, Eire Farrell as Katie Bell, Serrana Su-Ling Bliss as Alicia Spinnet and Ethan Smith as Lee Jordan. Hufflepuff gains India Moon as Hannah Abbott and James Trevelyan Buckle as Justin Finch-Fletchley, while Slytherin welcomes Oliver Croft as Marcus Flint and Laila Barwick as Pansy Parkinson.
The full announcement was shared via the official HBO Hogwarts students casting update, marking one of the largest single casting waves since the project began.
Fans Zero In on Slytherin
While excitement spread across all four houses, many viewers honed in on the Slytherin additions. Social media buzzed with praise for the new lineup, with one fan declaring, “Those Slytherins are not playing AT ALL.”
The fresh faces join previously announced leads Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The adult cast includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as McGonagall and Paapa Essiedu as Snape, alongside Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy.
The scale of the ensemble underscores HBO’s commitment to a sprawling, character-rich adaptation. It also builds on earlier momentum, including reports that the network is already exploring Harry Potter spinoffs ahead of the 2027 reboot.
Production begins mid-summer 2025, with the series expected to premiere in 2027 on HBO and stream on Max in expanded international markets. With each casting wave, the reboot feels less like a distant promise and more like a fully formed return to Hogwarts — one designed to linger in corridors the films never had time to explore.
