Mattel Launches Major Publishing Push for ‘Masters’ Film

Mattel Expands Masters With New Book Line

Mattel is going all in on Eternia. As its live-action Masters of the Universe film prepares to hit cinemas on June 5, 2026, the toy giant is rolling out an ambitious, film-tied publishing line that spans novels, comics, art books, and even manga. It’s a coordinated cross-media push designed to turn a movie release into a full-scale storytelling event.

The initiative, unveiled ahead of Toy Fair 2026, anchors Mattel’s broader franchise expansion across toys, film, digital experiences, and books. Details of the slate first emerged via IGN’s reveal of the program, with further rollout information shared through Mattel’s corporate announcement.

From Junior Novels to YA Drama

The first wave lands May 5, 2026, under Mattel Press. It includes Masters of the Universe: The Junior Novel by Steve Behling for readers aged 8–12, alongside two younger-skewing adaptations by Eric Geron: The Power Within, an illustrated storybook retelling, and I Am He-Man!, an early reader.

For teen fans, New York Times bestselling author Mackenzi Lee steps into Eternia with Teela: Daughter of Eternos, a YA novel set in the film universe. The story centers on the dynamic between Teela, Man-at-Arms, and Evil-Lyn, expanding the emotional and political stakes beyond the screen.

An art book will also offer a deep dive into the film’s concept art and development, giving collectors a glossy, behind-the-scenes look at the reboot’s visual world.

Comics, Manga, and a Broader Universe

The publishing strategy stretches well past prose. Dark Horse Comics will release Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate, a four-issue series written by Tim Sheridan with art by Will Sliney, colors by Israel Silva, and lettering by AndWorld Design. The comic is set directly in the film’s universe, running from June through October 2026.

In a franchise first, TOKYOPOP will publish Masters of the Universe: Legends of Eternia, a manga-style graphic novel written by Amanda Deibert and arriving in November 2026. The move signals Mattel’s intent to court global readers and younger manga fans alongside longtime He-Man devotees.

The coordinated rollout mirrors the kind of franchise-building seen in other major adaptations, from Brandon Sanderson’s expanding Cosmere universe to the ever-growing world of HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series. In each case, the story doesn’t stop at the screen.

With preorders already live for the May titles and additional announcements promised throughout the year, Mattel’s message is clear: Masters of the Universe isn’t just returning as a film. It’s relaunching as a fully integrated storytelling ecosystem, built to live on shelves as much as it does on screen.
