Stephen King’s ‘The Long Walk’ Sets January 2026 Starz Streaming Debut

Stephen King’s most merciless dystopia is finally coming home. After its 2025 theatrical run, Francis Lawrence’s feature adaptation of The Long Walk will make its streaming debut on Starz, arriving on the service January 10, 2026. That gives King readers—and anyone who missed it in theaters—a firm date to step into one of his bleakest, most acclaimed early nightmares.

The Bachman book King once thought was “too merciless”

First published in 1979 under King’s Richard Bachman pseudonym, The Long Walk was written when the author was just 19 and steeped in the Vietnam era. Its premise is brutally simple: in a near-future America ruled by a totalitarian regime, 100 teenage boys must walk until only one remains alive. HBO’s Welcome to Derry is busy rewriting Pennywise’s origin story,reimagining one of his most infamous monsters, while Hulu and other streamers are rediscovering his backlist in waves—from The Stand to underseen gems like 11.22.63 and Mr. Mercedes.One recent Netflix hit even turned a mid-2010s crime series into a fresh obsession.

More King projects are already in the pipeline. Mike Flanagan is also steering a long-gestating adaptation of The Dark Tower, and films based on The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon and a new take on Cujo are in active development at various studios.[5]
