Showdown in Shadesmar, part of Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere RPG, will launch in 2027, bridging campaigns for tabletop gamers.
If you have been following the rollout of the official Cosmere RPG from Brotherwise Games, you will know the schedule is packed. At GenCon, the publisher offered a clear look at where things are heading over the next couple of years, confirming that the digital adventure Showdown in Shadesmar will arrive for Kickstarter backers in 2027, landing comfortably ahead of the larger Tidebreakers supplement set for October 2027.
For players who backed the tabletop project, it offers a welcome bit of certainty about when the extra digital content will actually hit digital shelves. It also gives us our clearest indication yet of how Brotherwise plans to bridge the gaps between major campaign releases.
Showdown in Shadesmar was unlocked as the fourth and final digital stretch goal during the campaign, which saw Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere crowdfunding break records for tabletop gaming projects. Unlike some of the shorter rule extensions, this project is a standalone, 16-page original scenario specifically built for 7th-level characters.
What makes it particularly interesting for lore enthusiasts is the setting. Shadesmar, the Cognitive Realm within the Cosmere, operates on fundamentally different physical laws than the Physical Realm. Spren form bustling cities out of obsidian-like glass, human thoughts manifest as literal bead oceans, and travelling between planets like Roshar and Scadrial becomes a matter of physical navigation rather than space travel.
Because of that unique nature, Brotherwise designed the adventure so that characters from both The Stormlight Archive (Roshar) and Mistborn (Scadrial) rulebooks can participate. If you have wanted to see how an Allomancer copes with the strange logic of the Cognitive Realm alongside a Radiant, this brief adventure is built to handle that cross-pollination.

The timing of the release is quite deliberate. During their press briefing, Brotherwise explained that they wanted to provide material for gaming groups looking to transition between major storylines. When players finish initial campaigns on Roshar, primary options include running homebrew material, having characters level up offscreen, or stepping into Showdown in Shadesmar as a transitional bridge before tackling higher-level content.
The wider schedule for the tabletop game is turning out to be quite extensive, forming a core part of Brandon Sanderson’s multi-media project plans. Beyond Showdown in Shadesmar in early-to-mid 2027, autumn 2026 will see a Kickstarter campaign launched for Stormlight: War for Roshar, with fulfilment intended for 2027. That will be followed by the retail arrival of Stormlight: Tidebreakers in October 2027.

While tabletop players have plenty of structured content to look forward to, readers keeping an eye on screen news might wonder how this fits alongside the broader adaptation pipeline. Beyond the books and games, the Cosmere rights sit under an overall agreement where an Apple TV deal covers Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere universe.
Sanderson has noted previously that his main screen focus remains on developing The Stormlight Archive as a 10-episode television series where he acts as primary writer and co-showrunner, alongside a feature film script for Mistborn. However, no actors or directors are currently attached to those screen adaptations, meaning the tabletop game remains the primary arena where fans can explore new, canonical corners of Roshar for the foreseeable future.

All pledge tiers from the original Kickstarter will receive Showdown in Shadesmar for free as a digital supplement when it releases in 2027. For everyone else currently working through the core rulebooks, there is more than enough material available right now to keep your party busy until the journey into the Cognitive Realm begins.
